Spring Fayre 5 May 2008
This
was the first year that Melksham Climate Friendly group and Melksham Freecycle
had entered a stand into the Spring Fayre. A lot of planning went into the
day as we wanted to not only raise awareness of our group's existence but
also raise some much needed cash.
It was decided to run
a couple of 'games' to encourage children to visit the stands. Jade Aldersley
very kindly put together a Polar Bear game where the objective was to guess
which numbered square housed the polar bear. The bears were supplied as
a
result
of a 'wanted' post on Freecycle. The other game was 'guess the amount of
items in the jar'. Again, all toys and sweets in the jar were donated by
members of the climate group and Freecycle, as was the jar. Both games charged
50p a go.
Scott Aldersley put together a fabulous display of the Plastic Bag Free Campaign with lots of samples of biodegradeable products that he had found through his research. The display was very informative and attracted quite a bit of interest.
We
also had a very successful cake stand where all the biscuits and cakes were
made using organic, fair-trade, free range ingredients in the main. There
was a lovely selection of fairy cakes, sponges, brownies, macaroons and
various other tasty treats. All of these were donated. Pete and Rachel McHenry
also donated some plants.
