Britain's increasing traffic
problem is not only contributing one-third of our climate-changing CO2
emissions, but also harming our health and well-being. There are actions
that we can take to not only reduce our impact on the environment but also
to improve our quality of life. For instance, sharing a car, making more
use of our bicycle, setting up a school travel plan or setting up a car
club. It is more difficult reduce our car use for longer journeys because
of the limitations of our public transport systems. There is a reasonable
bus service within about 20 miles of Melksham during the day but less in
the evening and hardly any on Sundays. It is also more difficult and time-consuming
to travel further afield. Melksham is fortunate that the railway station
has reopened after being axed... but few trains call. Graham Ellis's excellent
campaign for more trains has drawn the support of some influential people
and we are beginning to see a limited increase in Sunday trains with a promise
of more weekday trains in the May 2008 timetable. MCFG would like
to see an improved bus and train service. To help you plan your local bus
and train travel visit Traveline South
