Energy use in our homes accounts for about a third of the UK's CO2 emissions, yet UK households waste £6.5 billion of energy every year! There are things that we can do to dramatically reduce our energy consumption and our carbon footprint, so helping protect the environment. Measures range from simple steps, like fitting low energy light bulbs and not leaving electrical items on standby; through sizeable projects like laying, or increasing the depth of, loft insulation; to major investment decisions like installing renewable energy sources (such as solar water heating, photovoltaic electricity panels or heat pumps) in our homes. MCFG can help you understand the implications for your budget and for the Planet of measures to cut your carbon footprint (check it out!). MCFG's Energy Sub Group will also explore whether renewable power can be generated locally, for the community's benefit, for instance via a hydro power installation in the Avon, or some other renewable facility.
