So what about the scary predictions...... Well amongst a whole host of speculation there is a common thought that Global Warming is irreversible. Even if we stopped all of our carbon emissions now there is too much in the atmosphere already to stop Global Warming and the politicians are only talking about reducing carbon emissions.... There is also a view by some that the Gulf Stream might cease to function. The Gulf Stream acts like thermal insulation for Britain and we wouldn't want to loose it because winters would be more severe. There is also much debate about just how much the sea level will increase putting British coastal flood defences at risk and causing devastation in some third-world countries. Other of effects of Global Warming could be changes in agricultural yields, glacier reduction, the extinction of species and an increase in the range of disease vectors.
