Climate Change

Climatologists have reasoned that there is a direct correlation between amounts of carbon in the atmosphere and global temperatures and this is because carbon is a greenhouse gas. That is, it reduces the amount of heat escaping from the Earth's surface. For some years climate models have been used to estimate the effect of the increase of greenhouse gases on our climate and, although the results vary somewhat, all predict that the Earth's average temperatures will continue to increase and that sea levels will rise due to the melting of the polar land ice. So how will this affect our weather? There are well-based assumptions that Britain will become generally drier but when it does rain there is likely to be more very heavy rain events similar to those that caused the flooding during 2007 in Yorkshire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. Further afield there are likely to be more tropical storms and the storms are likely to be more devastating. Other parts of the world are expected to have drought problems.
